The Place of Logistics in the Global Value Chain

According to the “Globalization in Transition: The Future of Trade and Value Chains” report prepared by McKinsey, the “labor intensity” rate of the Logistics sector (Transportation and Storage) is 56% and the “knowledge intensity” rate is 16%. The logistics industry relies heavily on “manpower” rather than “knowledge”.

The gross output of the logistics sector (Transportation and Storage) is 7.2 trillion dollars, which is 4.5% of global gross output. If the “knowledge intensity” factor in the logistics industry can be improved, it is highly likely that the gross output of the logistics industry will increase.
